Interesting period piece with very nice descriptions of pre WWII France. But it's a but precious and long in places. Still, I am reading the sequel which is ok. These are not books I would imagine re-reading.Product details

The Foundling Boy (Audible Audio Edition) Michel Déon Peter Noble Gallic Books Books Reviews
Excellent read. Nuanced characterizations, period authenticity, and regional flavors make for first class historical fiction. Look forward to the next chapter. Why so long in getting english translations of this fine series?
Not interesting to me.
A wonderful story, with definite French roots and flair. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I was terribly disappointed as I neared the end and read that the adventures would be continued in another book! The author had dropped hints about various characters and their future role, and I then realized that I would have to wait for a sequel to learn more. The characters were very well developed, and I grew to care about what happened to them. The writing reminded me a bit of some of Jean Giono's books. The tie in to the World War I aftermath made it very timely with today's great interest in that era. I can't wait for the next volume to be available on !
This is a great read, in my opinion. Wonderful characters and an endearing storyline told with extraordinary wit and warmth. Set in France, "The Foundling Boy" covers the years 1919 to 1940 and is, on one level, the story of Jean Arnaud; a child left on the doorstep of two servants as a newborn, who spends the first 20 years of his life learning the ways of the world. While he is raised in a very French bourgeois fashion, he begins to uncover some connections to some very interesting people by age 13. The world outside his provincial, middle-class home gradually opens to him, and provides the rich substance that is the core of this book.
This was one of those novels that I truly dreaded to see end--even knowing in advance that there is a sequel (The Foundling's War). I'm saving the latter to devour at a time when a mood enhancing, pick me up is needed. Highly recommended.
Good book - I thought it was going to be non-fiction, but it is still an interesting book.
Too smutty for my tastes. Not a bad story, just excessive, gratuitous sex.
Such fun to read....very different.
I loved the chance to read about an era and characters during the time between the world wars.
Interesting period piece with very nice descriptions of pre WWII France. But it's a but precious and long in places. Still, I am reading the sequel which is ok. These are not books I would imagine re-reading.
